Some people would say that I am intelligent and poised and others would say that I am athletic and confident. Whoever you may be and whatever you may think, one thing is certain- I am an interesting individual.
I used to be Jessamine Murphy from a family that's as old and traditional as they come. I used to be carefree and playful when I was a child but as all good things do, it ended too soon. I had just turned sixteen and was everything my parents could hope for...I was a cheerleader and a dancer. I was popular and dating one of the members of the local basketball team. My parents disapproved of Arayan but I didn't really care. I loved him and he loved me. That is until I saw him kissing the captain of the volleyball team. Heart broken, I ran home seeking solace only to discover another tragedy. My beloved father had died and I was to marry the son of his debtor in order to clear his bill. Desolate, I grabbed a book bag and hurriedly threw an extra outfit in along with my toothbrush, toothpaste, a picture of my father, and my wallet. Climbing out the window, I quickly slid down the trellis and ran away into the chilly darkness. I ran for the mountains near Star Lake and my special place, unaware I was being followed.
I hurried as fast as possible to try and beat the coming storm. Stopping near my grandfathers hunting cabin I picked up a few supplies at the small mountain store. After paying for my purchase, I grabbed the paper bag and left. Just a few feet from the entrance a man stood. Although he was clearly watching me, I couldnt see his features due to the dark hooded cloak he wore. Shivering from his intense gaze I hurried to my destination, stopping only to collect firewood. The man was on the cabin porch waiting for me. Before I could say a word, he began to speak
"Night has chosen thee; thy death will be thy birth. Night calls to thee; harken to Her sweet voice. Your destiny awaits you at the House of Night."
With the last words blood was pounding through my ears and as a heated fire exploded in my head, I passed out. What must have been hours later, I awoke with a start. Remembering the man and his words, I decided then and there to forget my old life and start anew. With this in mind, I made my way to the Star Lake House of Night and my new life.
